Violent Protest Against Padmaavat’s Release In Ahmedabad

Yesterday Ahmedabad was rocked by anti Padmaavat protests just two days before the release of the film. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film has resulted in violent protests at multiplexes and cinema halls in the city.

On Tuesday, the police arrested 16 people in Ahmedabad after the mob went on a rampage outside the Himalaya Mall protesting the release of Padmaavat. The situation was brought under control immediately. A senior official said, “16 people have been arrested and their interrogation is underway. The CCTV footage will be examined and more arrests will be made.”

The official strictly stated that the people are not allowed to take the law into their own hands. The official further added, “We deployed proper security in all the theatres, where the movie will be released. It is our responsibility to give proper security to the theatres as the Supreme Court has allowed the screening of ‘Padmaavat‘ in the State.”

The mob vandalized shops at the mall and a cinema hall in the city. They set the two wheeler vehicles parked outside the mall on fire. The vandalism took place after a candle march by the Karni Sena activist against releasing Padmaavat.

Rakesh Mehta the mall manager said, “The men attacked the mall even though it had displayed boards outside saying the film will not be screened there.”
Padmaavat the story of ancient queen Rani Padmini starring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh will release worldwide on the 25th of January.
