Center Orders Inspection Of The Missionaries of Charity Homes In India

The Center ordered all State Governments to conduct an immediate and thorough check of the Missionaries of Charity homes in the Country. The Missionaries of Charity is a Roman Catholic order founded by the late Mother Teresa.

This comes after the authorities shut down one such order in Jharkhand after a nun was arrested for baby trafficking. The home run by the same Missionary of Charity order was set up to provide shelter for pregnant and unmarried women.

On Monday, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi explained in a statement that all states must register child care institutions. She further added every institute in the Country should be linked to the federal adoption authority within the coming month.

The statement from the Ministry read, “Taking cognizance of the recent cases of illegal adoptions carried out by Missionaries of Charity in Jharkhand, Maneka Gandhi has instructed the states to get childcare homes run by Missionaries of Charity all over the country inspected immediately.”

The spokesperson of the Missionaries of Charity Sunita Kumar was not available to comment on this issue.
