Constables Branded Based On Caste In MP

Newly recruited constables were branded with the letters of their caste in Madhya Pradesh causing a major controversy. The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) issued a notice to the Madhya Pradesh Government regarding this shocking report.

Last week photographs of newly recruited constables where SC/ST or OBC that was marked on their chest went viral. The reports suggest the police officers resorted to tagging the constables to segregate them based on caste.

The Superintendent of Police Birendra Singh took charge of the matter and said, “It is a serious matter and we have ordered (an) investigation.” He further added no such instructions were given to the police and strict action will be taken.

Several politicians have condemned this incident including the Congress President Rahul Gandhi. Mr. Gandhi lashed out at the Madhya Pradesh Government and called it “an attack on the Country’s Constitution.” The Congress Leader also demanded an apology from the Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

BSP Chief Mayawati also condemned this incident and questioned why the BJP leaders were silent including the Prime Minister. Mayawati said, “Does it suit the BJP and company, and the Prime Minister himself, to remain silent (and) not to condemn such a casteist incident. This is the new and fresh example of BJP’s new found love for Dalits for their political gains.”

The BSP Chief demanded the responsible officials must be punished. She further stated the Center need to issue a strict order to ensure this incident does not repeat.
