On the 29th of April, the Delhi High Court rejected a plea to stop the  publishing of details of the ongoing case against Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi.

Filed by the NGO Anti Corruption of India, the plea said allowing the media to print details of the case could have a negative impact and could directly hit the Indian Judicial System.

While replying to the plea, a bench headed by Chief Justice Rajendra Menon said the top court already is in complete control of the situation and no interference by external sources was necessary for this case.

The allegations of alleged sexual harassment  were levied against Chief Justice of India (CJ) Ranjan Gogoi by a former female employee. The allegations are currently being looked into by a specially constituted bench of three judges.

The plea filed by the Anti Corruption of India also said apart from asking for a media gag order, the Delhi High Court should also ban sharing of information on social media platforms.

The plea also said that there was suspected involvement of anti national elements and if these allegations were made public, then the local population would start losing faith in the judicial system.

While the Supreme Court and the Delhi High Court haven’t passed a direct gag order on the publications, people have been urged to maintain restraint, responsibility and wisdom while sharing relationship pertaining to the case.

Stay tuned for more updates.
