According to an ANI report, President of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK,) M. Karunanidhi has been admitted at Kauvery Hospital in Chennai.
The former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister was taken to hospital for an endoscopic procedure. Due to this Mr. Karunandhi was unable to cast his vote on 17th July for the Presidential election.
At present, the working president of DMK, M.K. Stalin informed the 94 year old politician was facing severe health problems since October last year and would not be attending any public functions.
In October last year, Karunanidhi fell ill and was diagnosed with an allergy he caught due to medication he was taking. The former chief minister continued to fall ill and in December suffering from breathing difficulties due to lung and throat infection.
Karunanidhi has been resting at his home in the state capital after being discharged in December.
While in the hospital, the DMK patriarch underwent a tracheostomy for improvement in breathing.
Initially the December 20th meet for DMK was canceled due to Karunanidhi’s health issues but later on, in January the council meeting agreed on M.K. Stalin as the working president for DMK. Stalin has been considered for a long time as the political heir of Karunanidhi.
