Election Commissioner O. P. Rawat declared the dates for elections in five states: Mizoram, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana and Chhattisgarh today.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI,), the assembly elections for Madhya Pradesh and Mizoram will be conducted in a single phase on the 28th of November, 2018. Polling in Rajasthan and Telangana will be on the 7th of December, 2018 in a single phase. The Chhattisgarh elections will be held in two phases; on the 12th of November and the 20th of November, 2018.
The counting of votes for the states will take place on the 11th of December.
The ECI has started initiating voter assistant booths for the purpose of assembly polls in different states.
The announcement of the polling dates led to the Model Code of Conduct coming into force for the five states.
The declaration of the dates has flooded Twitter with tweets talking about the election body and the five states.
