On the 8th of December, Wednesday, Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, his wife Ms. Madhulika Rawat and 11 others died in the Tamil Nadu plane crash.

After hours of search operation, the Indian Air Force (IAF) confirmed the news of their demise. In a tweet, the IAF said, “With deep regret it has now been ascertained that Gen Bipin Rawat, Mrs Madhulika Rawat and 11 others on board have died in the unfortunate accident.”

In a shocking incident, an Indian Air Force helicopter with Chief of Defense Staff General Bipin Rawat on board, crashed in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu. 

On the 8th of December, Wednesday, the helicopter with 14 people crashed causing injuries to three people.  The concerned authority launched a search operation to rescue others onboard.   Injured people are currently being treated at the Wellington cantonment in Nilgiris district, Tamil Nadu. 

Getting into the details, the CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife, defense assistant, security commandos and an IAF pilot were on board in the Mi-series chopper.  The helicopter crashed in between Coimbatore and Sulur in Tamil Nadu.

Later, the IAF took to their official Twitter handle and confirmed the incident and said, “An IAF Mi-17V5 helicopter, with CDS Gen Bipin Rawat on board, met with an accident today near Coonoor, Tamil Nadu.  An Inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the accident.”

As of now, the sole survivor is Group Captain Varun Singh, directing staff at Defence Services Staff College (DSSC.)  He is being treated for his injuries at the Military Hospital in Wellington.

The IAF also launched a search operation and an initial investigation to find out the reason behind the crash. 

Meanwhile, upon hearing the sudden demise of Gen Bipin Rawat, indian ministers, political leaders and others took to Twitter and expressed condolences.
