Kathua Rape Case: Former Forest Minister Demands CM Mufti’s Resignation

After former Forest Minister Lal Singh resigned from the Jammu and Kashmir Government, he has called for Chief Minister Mufti to make the same sacrifice. Singh was forced to put in his papers after he was accused of supporting the culprits involved in the rape and murder of an 8 year old girl in Kathua.

Early, two ministers including Singh addressed a rally organized by the Hindu Ekta Manch in March supported the accused in the case. At the rally, Singh was quoted saying, “Why such a hullabaloo on the death of this one girl… many such girls have died here.”

The Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti suggested the two minister resign as their presence in the Government was untenable.

Demanding CM Mufti resign, Mr. Singh said, “Mehbooba Mufti should introspect… what had the two ministers (who resigned) done? We resigned so that peace is maintained in the country. We are the girl’s well-wishers. We want justice for her. The girl’s body wasn’t found for seven days after her disappearance. Mehbooba Mufti, who also holds the Home portfolio, must take moral responsibility for the incident and resign.”

On Friday, the two ministers resigned after the country demanded action against the politicians supporting the rapists.

This case relates to an 8 year old Muslim girl who was brutally gang raped and murdered by a fringe Hindu group in Jammu and Kashmir. This attack was done to scare the 8 year olds Muslim nomad community.

The first trial for the case was held today where the 8 culprits pleaded guilty and demanded a narco test to prove their innocence.
