Kerala: As many as 105 people where killed and over 350 injured when the massive fire broke out Puttingal Devi Temple complex at nearby Paravoor early on Sunday.
The tragedy struck due to firework display which caused the blaze and killed hundreds in Temple located near Paravoor, Kerala. Puttingal temple is in the coastal town of Paravur located about 60 kms from Thiruvananthapuram.
According to the police, at around 3 am the explosion is suspected to have occurred at the storeroom ‘Kambapuram’ filled with crackers and pyrotechnics materials.
The whole area plunged into darkness as the power supply went off and people ran out of shelter, eyewitnesses said. Asked about the death toll, the Chief Minister said the number would go up as reports are pouring in from different hospitals, where the injured have been admitted.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to offer his condolences to the deceased and their families.
