Landslide in China Buries 40 houses

A tragic landslide occurred in China leaving rescuers looking through rocks frantically for 140 people who are feared to have been buried under the rubble. The landslide occurred at a mountain village in the southwest Sichuan province.

Almost 40 homes have been swallowed by the landslide in the village of Xinmo. After the landslide rescuers managed to rescue a couple and a baby and rushed them to the hospital.

The landslide has buried 46 homes and 141 people. The landslide blocked 1.6 kilometers of a road and a 2 kilometer stretch of a river.

A local official, Wang Yongbo said, “It’s the biggest landslide in this area since the Wenchuan earthquake.”

Chen Tiebo, a local police captain reported the landslide was triggered by the heavy rains that hit the region over the few days. He also said, “There are several tons of rock. It’s a seismic area here. There’s not a lot of vegetation.”

The news reported revealed that around 500 people have taken part in the rescue mission. President Xi Jinping called the rescuers to “spare no effort” to find any survivors.
