Meghalaya And Nagaland Elections 2018 Begins Today

Today the polling for the North Eastern states of Meghalaya and Nagaland began. The voting will be held at a total of 59 Assembly Constituencies in both states. The counting and results for the election will be announced on the 3rd of March.

The BJP and Congress party have worked hard to claim victory in the two states. The BJP ruling party is keen on making a mark in the Northeast. The Congress will contest for 18 seats while the BJP contests for 20 seats.

In Nagaland there have been issues with Electronic Voting Machines (EVM.) Chief Electoral Officer from Nagaland Abhijit Sinha stated a total of 2,156 polling stations have been set up in the State. Out of which 1,100 were declared critical, 530 vulnerable and 526 normal. Among the polling stations set up in Meghalaya 340 were declared critical and 580 vulnerable.

In a shocking incident, sources revealed a crude handmade bomb was left at the Tizit polling station in Nagaland. The bomb went off at around 5:45 A.M., injuring a village council member Sri Yanlon. The voting process has continued at this station.
