The Madhya Pradesh Government may re open the 2007 murder case of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Pracharak Sunil Joshi against Sadhvi Pragya Thakur.
Kamal Nath, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh said the Indian National Congress (INC) will take legal advice and then submit an appeal to the High Court for reopening the murder case.
Pragya Singh Thakur was one of the main accused in Sunil Joshi’s murder case, she was also accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast which killed approximately 6 people in Madhya Pradesh.
On the 29th of December 2007, Sunil Joshi was shot dead at Dewas in Madhya Pradesh. The Dewas area police filed a case against 8 accused including Pragya Thakur.
Later, in 2011 the National Investigating Agency (NIA) who were already investigating the role of Pragya Thakur in the Malegaon bomb blast case took over the Sunil Joshi murder case for investigation.
The NIA linked Joshi’s murder case and said, it is the conspiracy of the Saffron Party terror group, which was also involved in Malegaon bomb blast case and Samjhouta Blast.
However, in 2017 a lower Court in Dewas, Madhya Pradesh acquitted Pragya Singh Thakur due to the lack of evidence in the Sunil Joshi murder case. After some time, she was also released on bail in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, as there was no solid evidence against her.
P.C. Sharma, the Law Minister of Madhya Pradesh said, “The state government will appeal to a higher court to re open the case. The Dewas district collector has been asked to submit a report in connection with the case.”
The former Collector of Dewas closed the case against Sadhvi Thakur independently without sending any reports to the State Law Department.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders claimed the actions of the Indian National Congress (INC) of re opening the case is a revenge strategy against Pragya.
The BJP said, the INC led Government of Madhya Pradesh know they will lose against Pragya in Bhopal.
Pragya Thakur is the current member of the BJP contesting the Lok Sabha elections as the Member of Parliament (MP) candidate from the Bhopal constituency.
Pragya Thakur is contesting against Digvijaya Singh, the MP candidate of the INC in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
The results of the Lok Sabha elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
