A day after the protest ‘Not in my name’ which was held across the country in the wake of  Hafiz Junaid’s murder by a lynch mob, the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi said on Thursday killing people in the name of cows is not acceptable.
Narendra Modi was speaking in Ahmadabad at the centenary celebrations of the Sabarmati Ashram.
He made a point saying  killing in the name of Gau Bhakti is unacceptable and no one has the right to take the law into their own hands.
“Mahatma Gandhi would never approve of cow vigilantism. We are the land of non violence,” Narendra Modi said.
“Cow vigilantism doesn’t give us the right to kill anyone. Violence is not the answer to our problems,” he added.
This is not the first time he has spoken against gau rakshaks.
In August 2016, Narendra Modi had targeted gau rakshaks and said that he felt enraged by them because they were hiding their misdeeds under the name of cow protection.
Cows don’t die just because of a murder but by consuming plastic from the garbage. People should stop throwing plastic if they really want to save the cows, Narendra Modi said.
The attackers hurled epithets and called Junaid and four others ‘beef eaters’ and ‘anti nationals.’ Later, the victim, Junaid was killed. As per the statement which was given by the four injured, the assailants also pulled their beards and called them ‘mulla.’
