Vijayawada: The Vijayawada police have intensified their investigation into the recent incident involving heavy boats that struck and damaged the Prakasam Barrage. The incident, which occurred on the 1st of this month, resulted in the destruction of approximately 17 tonnes of counterweights at gates 67, 69, and 70. Authorities have now arrested two suspects in connection with the case, bringing the investigation closer to resolution.
Among the damaged boats, three have been identified as belonging to Kukkalagadda Ushadri. Along with Ushadri, the police also arrested Komati Reddy Rammohanan, a resident of Surayapalem. Both accused were presented before the Vijayawada court for further legal proceedings.
Details of the Incident
On the day of the incident, four boats collided with the counterweights of the Prakasam Barrage, leading to significant structural damage. While the boat owners had not come forward initially, the Irrigation Department filed a formal complaint, prompting a police investigation into the matter. Investigators are currently probing whether negligence on the part of the boat owners was responsible for the incident or if there was a larger conspiracy at play.
Exploring Possible Political Links
As part of the investigation, authorities are also examining a potential political connection to the incident. Three of the sunken boats were painted in colors associated with the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP), raising questions about the possible involvement of political figures. Investigators are looking into whether the sinking of the boats was a deliberate act, orchestrated for unknown motives.
The police are committed to uncovering the full truth behind the incident and are preparing for a thorough investigation into any conspiracies following the court’s remand of the accused.
