Rahul Gandhi's Mathematical Error

In an attempt to show the BJP Government down, the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi made a fool out of himself on Twitter. Gandhi is working hard for the upcoming Assembly Elections in Gujarat. He started a campaign called, “22 saalo ka hisaab, Gujarat maange jawaab” (22 years of calculation, Gujarat demands answers.)

Today, Gandhi had his seventh question ready on the escalating cost of essential commodities. He added a table to his tweet showing the alarming rate at which certain commodities prices have risen. The table shows the previous and present prices along with the percentage increase. It has the prices for gas cylinders, dal, onions, milk and diesel.

Hilariously enough, the man who wants to rule failed to notice the huge mathematics error in the table. The table starts with the gas cylinder in 2014 cost Rs. 414 and in 2017 Rs. 742. But the percentage of increase is shown at a whopping 179% instead of 79%.

The remaining of the chart held the exact same mistake as it showed the percentage increase of dal as 177% instead of 77%. This tweet attracted criticism from all across the country.

After the backlash, Rahul Gandhi deleted the tweet and uploaded a fresh post with updated figures. But the damage was already done, someone expecting people to vote for them to run their state needs to have mathematical knowledge. The citizens plan to depend on him to handle their livelihood. It will be hard for people to trust someone who does not verify the things he posts. But then again it seems to be the era of people enjoying fake news from their leaders, look at the United States’ President Donald Trump.
