M. Kishtaiah, a 56 year old sub inspector for a special branch in Hyderabad, was killed in a hit and run. Every morning Kistaiah would leave his home at Bapu Ghat at 5:15 A.M., for his morning walk. Monday morning was just like any other day for the Sub Inspector, a bit special as it was his wedding anniversary.

At around 5:50 A.M., Kishtaiah was getting home from his walk on the Tipu Khan bridge at Langer Houz. A speeding sedan hit the inspector from the back throwing him against the compound wall of an Army premises. The impact killed him on the spot.

A news channel spoke to C. Anjaiah, Langar Houz Inspector. He reported, “At Tipukhan Bridge X roads when Kishtaiah was walking next to the footpath, a sedan (AP09 BR 2400) coming from Narsingi to Hyderabad hit the SI at a high speed from the rear. Due to the high speed collision, the SI hit the compound wall of an Army premises and crashed on the abutting footpath. He died on the spot.”

Morning walkers who were witness to the accident had the presence of mind to note down the sedan’s number that fled the scene. Further investigation revealed that the sedan was a Hyundai Accent and was registered under the name of Surinder Kumar Mongia.

An investigating officer revealed, “The person against whose name the car was registered told us that he sold the vehicle in 2016 to someone else, but the ownership transfer was not completed. We are in the process of arresting the culprit.”

Kishtaiah’s body has been sent to Osmania Hospital mortuary for preservation. The last rights will be conducted once his son returns from the U.S., where he is pursuing his masters. The late SI lived in Hyderabad with his wife and daughter, who is an engineering student.

Under section 304-A, death caused by rash and negligent act has been registered under the Indian Penal Code. The police are investigating to find the real culprit behind the accident.
