Surendra Singh, a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) on the 24th of March, attacked Sonia Gandhi, the Chairperson of the All India Congress Committee (AICC,) and singer Sapna Choudhary.
Surendra Singh, in an interview with ANI, said, “Rahul’s mother was also in the same profession in Italy and his father made her his own. He (Rahul Gandhi) should also take the family tradition forward and make Sapna his own.”
The comment was made after there were reports of Sapna Choudhary joining the Indian National Congress (INC.)
However, Sapna Choudhary denied the reports of joining the INC and said, she will not be a part of campaigns for any party, ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
Sapna Choudhary further reacted to the comment of Singh and said, “Rahul Gandhi is like my elder brother. But this BJP legislator’s cheap thought has got me thinking. The statement from the legislator of a national party is highly disgraceful and condemnable. Is insulting women his culture?”
This is not the first time Surendra Singh has made such remarks regarding the INC and its leaders.
Recently, during an interaction with media, Mr. Singh referred to Rahul Gandhi, the President of the Indian National Congress (INC,) as Ravana (the embodiment of evil in Ramayana) and Rahul Gandhi’s sister, Priyanka Gandhi, as Surpanakha (Ravana’s sister.)
He went on further and deemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi as ‘Lord Rama.’
Surendra Singh drew a lot of criticism on Twitter for his defamatory comments about women.
Politicians such as Mehbooba Mufti and Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter and condemned the comments made by the BJP MLA.
Repugnant comments. We need a special brand of Phenyl disinfectant to clean such dirty minds. When a ruling party MLA has the audacity to speak such garbage, you know it has been sanctioned at the top. Nowadays Indian political discourse has become crass, misogynistic & personal https://t.co/cZXfzhd5Kx
