A major thunderstorm and lightning in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand killed 37 people on Monday. The thunderstorm struck several parts of Bihar killing 16 people out of which 8 died because of lightning.
In Jharkhand, 12 people died and 28 were injured due to the lighting while 9 others died in UP. The information about the thunderstorm was released by the Principal Secretary of Information Avinash Awasthi.
Rescue work is underway in Uttar Pradesh and relief work will be provided to the people for the next 24 hours. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ordered an ex gratia of Rs. 4 lakhs to the next of kin to those who lost their lives.
The regional Meteorological Department announced dust storms and hazy weather for the next 24 hours in central and eastern UP.
