The Anti Terror Squad of the Uttar Pradesh Police, on the 21st of February, arrested two persons in Deoband, Western Uttar Pradesh.
The arrested are suspected to be members of the Jaish e Mohammad (JeM,) the terrorist group behind the Pulwama terror attack.
The Pulwama terror attack, which took place on the 14th of February, killed 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans.
Adil Ahmad Dar was the suicide attacker who rammed a Mahindra Scorpio full of 350 kg of explosives into a bus in which the 40 CRPF jawans were seated.
The two arrested were identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad and Aqib Ahmad Malik. Shahnawaz is a resident of Kulgam district in Jammu and Kashmir and used to recruit people for the JeM. Shahnawaz is also said to be a grenade expert. On the other hand, Aqib belongs to Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir.
O.P. Singh, the Police Chief of Uttar Pradesh, on the 22nd of February, addressed a press conference and said, “It is difficult to say whether the two men came before the Pulwama attack or after that and whether they were linked to it… we have evidence of Jaish connections that we can’t share right now.”
The Uttar Pradesh Police are investigating the matter and interrogated the two accused.
