The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Hyderabad shifted the terminal for international flight departures. The terminal, known as Interim International Departure Terminal (IIDT,) came into operation today from 10:30 A.M.
The GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) issued a press release stating, “Passengers who are booked on Air India International flights AI 127, AI 952, AI 978, AI 988, AI 966 & AI 051 and travelling to domestic destinations are also advised to report at the Interim International Departure Terminal (IIDT) as per their scheduled departure times.”
R.N. Choubey, the Civil Aviation Secretary, inaugurated the terminal on the 10th of October. It is designed to help international passengers in the boarding process without any hustle and chaos.
Speaking about the growth of passengers at the RGIA, S.G.K. Kishore, the CEO of GHIAL, said, “In 2015 we celebrated 10 million passengers. We have almost doubled this year and by March next year we would have handled 20 million passengers.”
The IIDT is located adjacent to the Haj Terminal. It is accessible from two different sides of the airport’s main road through Rotary 1 (Cargo Rotary.) A shuttle service is provided at the IIDT from the main passenger terminal and the Public Transport Center.
At present, the RGIA is handling 32 international flights of 22 airlines with an average of 5,500 international passengers.
