On the 9th of July, Saturday, Indian states would observe a day of mourning for the former Prime Minister (PM) of Japan Mr. Shinzo Abe, who passed away on the 8th of July, Friday.
On Friday morning Mr. Shinzo Abe was shot during a stump speech, in West Nara city. The injured Shinzo was taken to hospital, where after hours of treatment, Mr. Shinzo Abe succumbed to his injuries.
On the other hand, the accused who shot Mr. Shinzo Abe was arrested by the Japanese police and has been identified as Tetsuya Yamagami, a 41 year-old resident of Nara City.
To express grief on the unfortunate death of Japanese leader Mr. Shinzo Abe, Mr. Narendra Modi, the Prime Minister of India tweeted, “As a mark of our deepest respect for former Prime Minister #ShinzoAbe, a one-day national mourning shall be observed on 9 July 2022.” In another tweet, Mr. Narendra Modi said, “I am shocked and saddened beyond words at the tragic demise of one of my dearest friends, Shinzo Abe. He was a towering global statesman, an outstanding leader, and a remarkable administrator. He dedicated his life to make Japan and the world a better place.”
Besides PM Narendra Modi, Mr. Rajnath Singh, the Union Defence Minister, Mr. Rahul Gandhi, the former President of the Indian National Congress (INC) and other political leaders from India, expressed shock and condolences on the demise of Mr. Shinzo Abe.
Meanwhile, highlighting the political career of Mr. Shinzo Abe, he was the longest serving Prime Minister of Japan, between 2006 to 2007, and then again from 2012 to 2020. He had stepped down from the Prime Minister’s post in 2020 citing health reasons.
