A 34 year old immigrant from India, Anil Vannavalli residing in New York was at the Edison train station waiting to catch a train to Manhattan. Suddenly, his co-worker fell on the train tracks, heroic Anil, jumped on to the tracks with another commuter to help the lady. The urgency of the situation made Anil leave his bag on the platform. Little did he know that while he was busy saving a life from an oncoming train someone else would take advantage of the situation and steal his bag!

Anil Vannavalli, a data administrator had been living in the U.S., for the past 10 years. In his backpack were his laptop and headphones worth $ 700, and $ 200 in cash with along with his work identification card. Vannavalli was disappointed by this saying, “How can they do this in this situation? I felt very bad.”

Vannavalli’s bravery was rewarded by the Edison Police with a cheque of $1000. The woman was identified as 26 year old Madhuri Recherla who later admitted that she had fainted because she hadn’t eaten anything in the morning. Madhuri was rushed to the hospital with a broken ankle and fractured knee.

The Edison Township Police department is scanning through the security footage of the station to find the culprit behind the robbery. Thomas Bryan, Police Chief said, “This theft, perpetrated in the midst of such a selfless good deed, seems so very disgusting and outrageous.”

Vannavalli said, “We know these things happen but not in this moment. When someone is going to save a life, how can he think about stealing?” He also added, “You should be ready to help anyone in any situation… it’s humanity.”
