Malaysia Earthquake: 11 dead, 8 missing

Kundasang, Malaysia: The toll has reached eleven in the earthquake of Malaysia on Saturday. Nearly nine bodies have been recovered from the highest peak of Malaysia on Saturday after a strong earthquake measuring 5.9 on Richter scale jolted Malaysia on Friday. About eight people are still missing on the Mount Kinabalu. The powerful quake trapped many climbers by sending rocks and boulders down the routes of trekking.

Some people managed to escape the disaster with minor injuries. According to district police official Farhan Lee Abdullah, one person is in coma and two persons including a local guide (30) and a female Singaporean student (12) were found dead on Friday.

The search is underway for 17 others including one each from Japan, Philippines, China and eight Singaporeans. Remaining are from Malaysia, according to police. The rescue operation is in progress with the help of searchers and 4 helicopters. The quake shook the buildings and also damaged roads.
