Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu brought the first medal for India at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
On the 24th of July, the 2nd day of the Tokyo Olympics 2020, Chanu Saikhom Mirabai, a weightlifter representing India,won a silver medal. Some of her achievements as an athlete are a silver and gold medals at the CommonWealth Games 2014 and 2018 respectively, a gold medal at the World Championship 2017 and a bronze medal at the Asian Championship 2020. Now, in 2021,she won a silver medal for India at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
In today’s match, she was competing in the women’s 49 kg category weightlifting event. China’s Hou Zhihui clinched the gold medal in the same event at the Olympic Games.

The Tokyo Olympics started from the 23rd of July 2021 and would end on the 8th of August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan. Despite being held in 2021, the Tokyo Olympics is called 2020 as it was postponed due to the ongoing Wuhan virus pandemic. In 2021, the Tokyo Olympics are being organised, and the name Tokyo Olympics 2020 is still retained for branding reasons.
