On Friday, Pakistan agreed to allow Kulbhushan Jadhav’s wife and mother to visit him on the 25th of December. An Indian High Commission Official from Islamabad will also be present at the meeting. The news was reported by the Pakistani Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr. Mohammad Faisal.
The announcement was made after Pakistan stated it would allow a meeting with Jadhav on humanitarian grounds. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs agreed to the meeting on three conditions. The first being safety and security must be provided to Jadhav’s wife and mother. MEA also said the wife and mother must not be harassed or questioned during their visit. The last condition was an official from the Indian High Commission must be allowed to accompany them during their stay in Pakistan.
Jadhav was imprisoned in Pakistan for alleged involvement in espionage and terror attacks. The Pakistan Government sentenced Jadhav to hang but the International Court of Justice stayed his execution. The ICJ further asked Pakistan to submit a memorial by the 13th of December 2017.
