Prince Harry announced his engagement to actress Meghan Markle on Twitter yesterday. The youngest son of Princess Diana and Prince Charles, presented the love of his life with an engagement ring made from his late mother’s diamond collection.
Harry said it was his way of paying tribute to his mother because he knows if she was alive she would be best friends with Markle. He was quoted saying, “It is days like today when I really miss having her around and miss being able to share the happy news.”
Prince Harry added, “But you know, with the ring and with everything else that’s going on, I’m sure she’s with us, you know, jumping up and down somewhere else.”
The ring features two diamonds from Princess Diana’s collection along with a stone from the couples favorite place, Botswana. Harry kindly said, “The ring is, is obviously yellow gold because that’s her favorite and the main stone itself I sourced from Botswana and the little diamonds either side are from my mother’s jewelry collection, to make sure that she’s with us on this crazy journey together.”
Markle spoke about Princess Diana and said, “Not being able to meet his mom, it’s so important to me to know that she’s a part of this with us.” The Suits actress further added she met Diana’s sisters and her close friend Julia Samuel. Markle was quoted saying, “I’m able to, in some way, know a part of her through them, and of course through him.”
Harry in response to what kind of relationship his fiance and mother would have, “I think she would be over the moon, jumping up and down, you know, so excited for me, but then, as I said, would have probably been best friends, best friends with Meghan.”
The couple has been together for 16 months and decided to make the commitment permanent, The two had their photocall at the Sunken Garden in Kensington Palace which was Princess Diana’s favorite place in the palace.
