The Rashtriya Janata Dal’s (RJD) Chief Lalu Prasad Yadav surrendered before the CBI on Thursday in Ranchi, Jharkhand after his provisional bail expired.
Lalu Prasad Yadav was convicted in the fodder scam in December last year. The lawyers of Lalu Prasad Yadav sought a provisional bail on medical grounds. He was released on the 6th of May by the Jharkhand High Court. He was also restrained from taking part in any public function, political activity and issuing statements to the media.
After his bail on medical grounds, he made several trips to the hospital. He was first admitted to the hospital on the 23rd of May and was discharged on the 4th of June. Then he was admitted again on the 26th of June and discharged on the 9th of July. Recently, he was admitted to the Mumbai hospital on the 6th of August and discharged on the 25th of August.
The court directed Lalu Prasad Yadav to surrender before the 30th of August. The court turned down his plea to extend the bail any further at the last hearing. Before his arrest, Mr. Yadav said, “I have trust in CBI court’s decision.”
