USA, June 25: Afghanistan has made history by reaching the semifinals of the T20 World Cup 2024 for the first time. After a stunning victory over Australia in the Super-8 stage, Afghanistan secured their spot in the semifinals with a crucial win against Bangladesh. Afghan captain Rashid Khan attributed their success to hard work and belief.
“Brian Lara was the only one who believed we could reach the semifinals. When we met him before the tournament, we promised to prove him right. Achieving this dream in a major tournament like the World Cup is incredible. Our victory over New Zealand boosted our confidence. I’m proud of our team. We thought 130 runs was a defendable score, and we implemented our strategy to restrict them to 12 overs. Despite the rain, which was beyond our control, our hard work paid off,” said Rashid Khan.
Rashid Khan has also made a personal milestone, taking four wickets in a match nine times in international T20s, surpassing Shakib Al Hasan’s record of eight.
