Nine people died and twelve were left injured in a gas pipeline blast at the Bhilai Steel Plant Ltd., today morning. The steel plant is run by the State Authority of India Limited (SAIL,) situated in the Durg district of Chhattisgarh.
The incident took place during a maintenance job around 10:30 A.M., after a fire broke out in a gas pipeline at the Bhilai Steel Plant, 30 km from Raipur. The police and the rescue teams rushed to the spot and admitted those injured to a nearby hospital. Nine people were burnt alive to death and the twelve who were injured are said to be in a very critical condition.
G. P. Singh, Inspector General of Police of Durg, stated to the media, “All of them are said to be serious and are admitted to the district hospital. The figures (of the dead) could rise in the next couple of hours.”
The police have started an investigation to find out the reason behind the explosion.
