Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, on the 8th of February, retorted to the criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Ms. Banerjee said, “If you take ‘panga’ (fight) with me, I will become ‘changa’ (better.)” She further added, “During the election, he (PM Modi) becomes ‘Chaiwala’. He becomes ‘Rafalewalla’ once election is over (sic.)”

The criticism came after Mr. Modi, on the same day, took a dig at Mamata Banerjee and said, “Didi is worried about moving to Delhi and she has left Bengal, the poor and middle class to be looted by the alliance of middlemen and syndicate.”

Speaking about PM Modi’s visit to Jalpaiguri for the inaugural of a bench of the Calcutta High Court, Ms. Banerjee said, “Nobody from Calcutta High Court was present. All infrastructure was paid for by us. The land is ours. The circuit bench is of the high court but nobody from them was there. It means the bride-bridegroom wasn’t there but the band party was there.”

Recently, Modi claimed, Ms. Banerjee is afraid of elections and will lose public support in West Bengal. In addition, he said, the BJP will win over the TMC in the State.

Giving a sharp reply to Modi’s comments, Ms. Banerjee said, “He (Narendra Modi) is afraid because we are working together. I was never scared. I have always fought my way out.”

Ms. Banerjee concluded her speech with a question to the BJP. She asked “why everybody, from RBI to CBI, is saying bye bye to him (PM)?”

The rift between the TMC and the Central Government came to light after the TMC organised the United India Rally, on the 19th of January, against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP.)

Approximately 23 parties participated in the rally and criticised the Modi led BJP Government in India.

Stay tuned for further updates.
