Kerela Assembly Discusses Flood Rehabilitation

The Kerela Legislative Assembly has organized a special one-day session regarding the impact of the Kerela floods. The session started at 9:00 A.M., this morning.

This session was organized to discuss the devastating flood impacts and measures to rehabilitate the lives and infrastructure in Kerela.

The Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan started the session with a statement talking about the worst floods in a century and the havoc caused.

As per official figures, 483 people were killed in the flood and rain-related incidents. Another 140 people are undergoing treatment. At present, there are a total of  59,296 people living in relief camps. Terming the disaster man-made, Congress legislator V. D. Satheesan pointed out the failures related to the dam management.

Veteran CPM leader and former chief minister V.S. Achuthanandan pointed at policy level flaws that led to the disaster. Developmental activities should be carried out keeping environmental concerns in mind, Mr. Achuthanandan urged the government to come up with a comprehensive master plan for rebuilding Kerala.

The Assembly will pass a resolution on the losses incurred due to the floods and rehabilitation for the ones affected.
