Rivaba Jadeja, the wife of cricketer Ravindra Jadeja, expressed her desire to contest the ensuing Lok Sabha elections in the Jamnagar constituency in Gujarat, on a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ticket.
Rivaba is a member of the BJP and also the President of the women’s wing of the Karni Sena in Gujarat. Ms. Rivaba approached the BJP and sought a BJP ticket to contest in Jamnagar.
However, an official announcement regarding the same is yet to come.
If elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) of Jamnagar, Rivaba Jadeja will compete against Hardik Patel, the MP candidate representing the Indian National Congress (INC) in the same constituency.
Hardik Patel, the Convener of the Patidar Anamat Andolan Samiti (PAAS,) joined the INC on the 12th of March 2019.
In the 2017 Gujarat Assembly elections, the PAAS gave tough competition to the BJP by securing 82 Assembly seats out of 182 Assembly seats.
Therefore, nominating Hardik Patel to contest in Jamnagar could be a big advantage for the INC as the Party will secure a majority of the Patidar votes.
The current MP of Jamnagar is Poonam Madam, a member of the BJP. In 2014, the BJP won all the 26 Lok Sabha seats and formed the government in Gujarat, which is also the home state of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Gujarat will contest a total of 26 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled on the 23rd of April.
The major parties contesting the Lok Sabha elections are the BJP and the INC.
The results of the elections will be announced on the 23rd of May 2019.
Stay tuned for further updates about the Lok Sabha elections.
