Hyderabad: Minister Jupalli Krishna Rao has accused former minister Harish Rao of politicizing the SLBC tunnel accident for electoral gain. Speaking at a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan, he questioned why the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, which ruled for ten years, failed to complete the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) project.
Addressing Harish Rao directly, Jupalli Krishna Rao asked, “Why was only 200 meters of the SLBC tunnel dug while the rest was abandoned? Was it due to lack of profit? Did the BRS fear that completing the project would bring Congress recognition?” He demanded answers to these questions, emphasizing that natural disasters should not be used for political mileage.
The minister also expressed grave concerns for the trapped workers, stating, “Unless a miracle happens, there is little chance of survival for the eight trapped workers. If company representatives had not alerted authorities in time, the toll could have been as high as 40.”
With the SLBC project delay and tunnel accident sparking political debate, the Congress and BRS continue to trade accusations, intensifying tensions in Telangana politics.
