Mumtaz Ahmed Khan, the Pro Tem Speaker of the Telangana Assembly, on the 18th of January, declared Pocharam Srinivas Reddy as the Telangana Assembly Speaker.

K. Chandrashekar Rao, the Chief Minister of Telangana, held a meeting with the TRS members and nominated Mr. Srinivas Reddy unanimously for the post of the Telangana Assembly Speaker.

Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, a member of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the former Agriculture Minister of Telangana, was elected unopposed for the post of the Assembly Speaker. The main opposition parties, the Congress party and the All India Majlis e Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM,) supported Mr. Reddy and did not submit their nominations for the post.

Pocharam Srinivas Reddy started his political career in the year 1977 and joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of Andhra Pradesh. Later, in 2011, Reddy quit the TDP and joined the TRS.

KCR expressed his happiness and thanked all the Party members and the opposition parties for their support. He also praised Mr. Reddy’s contribution and said, “As the agriculture minister, Srinivas Reddy implemented many schemes for the farming community. All states continue to follow schemes like the Rythu Bandhu and Rythu Bheema that were initiated by him.”

After the ceremony, KCR and the TRS leaders congratulated Mr. Reddy for his new post.
