In a shocking case in Maharashtra, a woman and her husband were arrested for posing as Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) officers and duping people. The Satpati coastal police made the arrest and reported that the couple had duped the people of around Rs. 9 lakh.

On Tuesday, the couple, Mansi Dilip Mehta and Shoaib Nasir Channa were presented at the Palghar court.

At the hearing they were remanded to a four day judicial custody.

The couple had accomplices that have absconded, Bhavesh Mehta and Bharat Bhatia.

The Satpati coastal police API, Kishore Shinde reported, “The four worked in tandem, with Bhavesh and Bharat cheating people who approached them for jobs in a fake Australian resort, and then when the victims approached the police, Mansi would assure them of the recovery of their money while Shoaib would negotiate a ‘service charge’ with them.”

He was also quoted saying, “When the victims pestered her for the money, she would give them a fake demand draft of a Bandra bank, and soon the victims would come to know that they had been cheated.”

The officials said during questioning Mansi was asked to produce proper identification. But she was unable to provide the proof she is an ATS officer.

The four have been doing this scam since January 2016. Bharat and Bhavesh managed to scam a total of Rs. 53.20 lakhs. The couple duped the people for Rs. 9.95 lakh.

The police have sent about a search party for the absconded.

The couple, Mansi and Shoaib have both been booked under conspiracy, impersonating a public servant, cheating and for forgery under the Indian Penal Code.
