Hyderabad Couple Arrested For Heinous Crime

Police arrested a Hyderabad based couple for trying to get rid of their daughter. A 4 year old toddler has been rescued with severe burn injuries on her body.

The couple identified as Lalitha and Prakash work together at a hostel in SR Nagar. Lalitha (25) worked as the cook and Prakash (25) as the watchman.

The neighbours around the couple’s house stated they warned the couple on hearing the child screaming. The couple then took the child to Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad for treatment. Prakash and Lalitha decided to take the baby to Bharosa, a support centre for the protection of women and children run by the Hyderabad police.

The couple claimed to have found the child abandoned at a railway station. SR Nagar Police Station was alerted by the Bharosa police on finding gruesome burn marks on the child.

The police launched a preliminary as suspicion grew towards the couple. They found out the 4 year old was actually Lalitha’s child.

SR Nagar Police Inspector Waheeduddin said, “The girl is from Lalitha’s first marriage. She seems to have left or divorced her first husband and married Prakash. The girl was found with burn injuries on her body after her mother allegedly made her sit on a frying pan. The burn injuries seem to be from around 4 to 5 days ago.”

A case has been registered against the couple under provisions of the Juvenile Justice Act and under IPC section 324 (Voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means.)

The Sub Inspector from SR Nagar Police station G. Ajay Kumar said, “We are investigating further to understand what led the mother to resort to such a brutal act. Given the age of the baby, we can’t draw any conclusion.”

The girl is now at Sishu Vihar, a Children Welfare Organisation in Hyderabad.
