On Wednesday, District Health and Medical officials shut down two medical institutions in Hyderabad for conducted sex determination tests. Health and Medical Officer Dr. Sarala with officials raided and shut down Jyothi Reproductive Health Center in Ameerpet and Sujatha Scanning Center in Yousufguda.
The two medical institutions were shut for violating the Pre Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act (PNDT.) The raid happened after a tip off with evidence that was submitted to the city’s authorities.
A Joint Task was formed by Hyderabad’s District Collector Yogitha Rana to look into the tip off. Mr. Rana said, “Stringent action will be taken against those who violate the act. Those who encourage and participate in sex determination will also be prosecuted under the Act.”
The raid included seizing of all the medical equipment from the institutions. The officials also stated the license of two doctors would be revoked. The Hyderabad Collector also issued a toll free number 1098 or 040-23202351 to inform about sex determination cases.
This comes after the Hyderabad High Court ordered the police to shut down Gayathri Nursing Home that conducted illegal abortions.
