The Hyderabad Police arrested three people from the management of the Gayatri Nursing Home in Saidabad. This comes after the city’s High Court attacked the police for failing to take action against the nursing home for conducting illegal abortions.
Among the three arrested on Friday two were doctors reported the city’s police. The accused have been identified as Dr. Kiran Kumar, his wife Dr. Rachna Singh Thakur and a supervisor Sarwari Unnisa.
News of the nursing home conducting illegal abortion came when R. Sandeep Yadav filed a Public Interest Litigation. Yadav provided the Court with a tape that showed an unqualified woman crushing a new born baby girl to death at Gayatri Nursing Home.
The video was watched by the Bench with Action Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice K. Vijaya Lakshmi. The Bench was enraged by the horrifying video and demanded immediate and strict action against the accused.
The Court’s order was clear and the police immediately booked a case under the Medical subsection 5 of the Termination of Pregnancy Act 1971. The nursing home was also booked under subsection 2 (Termination of pregnancy by a person who is not a registered medical practitioner.)
On the 3rd of April, the Medical and Health Department admitted the heart wrenching video was authentic. After this, the nursing home was sealed by the authorities.
