Hyderabad continues to be affected by heavy rains as roads were flooded and some even caved in causing massive traffic jams in the city. Low lying colonies had water flowing into houses on Sunday causing a lot of unrest.

News channels reported that there were a total of 276 grievances reported for overflowing manholes and waterlogged streets. The areas mainly affected were Madhapur, Banjara Hills, Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Punjagutta, Uppal and Ramanthapur.

A wall of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) office at Chandrayangutta collapsed on Sunday afternoon but fortunately, no one was injured.

The Nehru Zoological Park also experienced heavy rains as the water overflowed into the safari enclosure.

A zoo official reported, “We have closed the safari enclosure to ensure that none of our animals are affected due to inundated water. The steady rainfall is leading to frequent water stagnation and Mir Alam tank, which is old, has already developed cracks.”

The Indian Meteorological Department reported that the rain would continue for another 48 hours and gave a 24 hour warning.

The warning read, “Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning, gusty winds very likely to occur at isolated places in all the districts of Telangana.”
