Rivals Shake Hands During An Event

Today, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his predecessor Manmohan Singh greeted each other folding hands. They met face to face during an event to pay homage to the martyrs of the 2001 Parliament attack. The leaders of the various parties joined today to pay their respects to martyrs in Delhi.

Earlier this week, the duo waged a war of words accusing each other of various acts. Modi accused Singh of collaborating with Pakistan to ensure the BJP’s defeat in Gujarat. Manmohan Singh hit back stating Modi was spreading falsehood and canards to score political points in a lost cause.

Manmohan Singh stated he has not discussed the Gujarat elections with anyone else present at the dinner held at Mani Shankar Aiyar’s place. The discussion was confined to India Pakistan relations.

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, BJP Veteran L.k. Advani, Congress President Sonia Gandhi, President elect Rahul Gandhi, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and several politicians showered petals at the portraits of the martyrs.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a tweet said the sacrifice of those who lost their lives will not be forgotten. He tweeted, “We pay homage to those who laid down their lives protecting the temple of our democracy on 13th December 2001. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten.”

On the 13th of December 2001, five heavily armed gunmen stormed the Parliament complex and opened fire. A woman from the Central Reserve Police, five police personnel from Delhi, two parliament watchmen, ward staff, a gardener and cameraman were among those who lost their lives on that fateful day.
