On Tuesday night, the Hyderabad police arrested the son of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) municipal councilor. Malkajgiri municipal councilor N. Jagdishwar Goud’s son Abhishek Goud was arrested by the SHE Teams and Hyderabad Central Crime Station for allegedly harassing girls on social media.
The allegations from several girls from the city have stated that Abhishek befriended them and kept harassing and pressured them to meet him.
Abhishek is from an engineering college at a private institution in Hyderabad. The SHE Teams took action after receiving multiple calls from girl students from different colleges about harassment from the politician’s son.
An official reported, “First we received one complaint and then many girls informed us anonymously about Abhishek’s harassment. Two of his close friends were also doing the same. Abhishek would send friend requests to college girls on Facebook and befriend them. Later he would take their phone numbers and send messages on WhatsApp. He used to make anonymous calls also. He would then start asking or pestering them to meet him. If they refused he would pressure them, threaten to upload their morphed photos, phone numbers, and chats on the web or porn sites. He also threatened many girls that he had powerful political friends and they would face dire consequences if they did not yield to his demands.”
Abhishek used a VoIP to avoid being detected or his mobile number being traced. The police used his IP address and tracked him down. Two of Abhishek’s friends have also been booked under the same case and were arrested on Wednesday.
