Voting For The Ludhiana Municipal Corporation Starts Today

Today, the voting for the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, biggest municipal body in Punjab started at 8 A.M and will continue till 4 P.M. A total of 494 candidates are in the fray for the 95 municipal wards. The candidates in the fray belong to the Congress, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD,) the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and the Lok Insaf Party (LIP.) It is said a total of 1,153 polling booths have been set up for the 10.5 lakh voters in Ludhiana. Civil issues including water supply, pollution, poor sewerage, bad roads and lack of cleanliness are pointed out as the primary issues people are facing in Ludhiana.

A Senior Police Official said around 4,500 policemen have been deployed to ensure peaceful voting. District Electoral Officer and the Deputy Commissioner Pradeep Kumar Agarwal said around 5,400 civil administration employees are also engaged in the election process. Agarwal further added nine strong rooms are also set up where the Electronic Voting Machines’ (EVMs) will be kept until the counting day. CCTV cameras are also set up for round the clock supervision. The results are said to be announced on the 27th of February.
