Nalgonda: The SC and ST Court in Nalgonda has delivered a landmark verdict in the Pranay murder case, which shocked the Telugu states. The court sentenced A2 accused Subhash Kumar Sharma to death, while the remaining accused received life imprisonment.

The case dates back to September 14, 2018, when Maruthi Rao, a businessman from Miryalaguda, orchestrated the honor killing of his son-in-law Pranay for marrying his daughter Amrutha in an inter-caste marriage. Rao hired a contract killer to execute the murder. Following an extensive investigation, police filed a charge sheet in 2019, naming eight individuals as accused. After more than five years of trial, the final judgment has been delivered.

The prime accused Maruthi Rao died by suicide in 2020, leaving Subhash Kumar Sharma (A2), Asghar Ali (A3), Barry (A4), Karim (A5), Shravan Kumar (A6), Shiva (A7), and Nizam (A8) facing trial. While Sharma remained in custody, the others were out on bail.

Following the verdict, Pranay’s parents, Balaswamy and Premalatha, paid floral tributes at his grave, urging for an end to honor killings. “Criminals must be exposed, and such tragedies should never repeat,” said Balaswamy.
