Approximately 1,000 travelers landed at Mumbai International Airport, from African countries in the last 15 days.
On the 30th of November, Tuesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed the information. Mr. Suresh Kakani, the Additional Commissioner of BMC said they have a list of 466 travelers from the Airport. He said, “Out of the 466 travellers, 100 are from Mumbai. We have already collected their swab samples. Their reports are expected soon. It will be clear if they are positive or negative for Coronavirus.” He further said, “There won’t be an issue if their test reports is negative, but the civic body is going to conduct genome sequencing of positive samples, along with the S-gene missing tests that is advised by the WHO (World Health Organisation) for faster detection of the infection due to Omicron, without genome sequencing.”
Omicron, is a new COVID-19 variant, found in South Africa, which has now been classified as “Variant of Concern”.
Meanwhile, if the samples tested positive, all the COVID-19 positive travelers would undergo mandatory quarantine at Civic Body’s Institutional quarantine facilities at Civic run Seven Hills Hospital in Mumbai.
