In Karnataka’s Mangaluru City, an 80 year old beggar woman named Ashwathamma, donated a whopping amount of Rs. 1 lakh to a temple in Bantwal Taluk. It is to be noted, Ashwathamma conveyed her wish to donate the money through a restaurant owner near the temple, whose details is not known and donated the amount to the Kshetra Rajarajeshwari Temple.
The elderly woman who is from Kanchigodu hamlet in Gangolli, Udupi district, earned the money through begging during the annadana event at Shri Kshetra Rajarajeshwari temple in Managaluru. Ashwathamma has been begging for more than 18 years and has donated Rs. 6 lakhs to a number of temples.
Furthermore, Ashwathamma is a follower of Ayappa’s mudradharane avatar and has given ‘annadana’ and has donated amounts to various temples. She had also donated to various orphanages in Karnataka’s Udupi and Dakshina Karnataka regions.
Speaking about her life, Ashwathamma started begging 18 years ago after her husband died. Soon she lost her children, following which she started to donate an amount of her income to temples and orphanages. Her life goal is to live life peacefully and ensure that no one should be hungry.
