The controversial remark of Ms. Nupur Sharma, the former Spokesperson of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has now become a national issue with global outrage and criticism from Islamic and Gulf countries. After a boycott from the Saudi nations, India faced terror threats over the remark against Mohammed, the Prophet of Islam.
On the 8th of June, Tuesday, the terror outfit Al-Qaeda in the Subcontinent (AQIS) threatened suicide attacks in Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Mumbai and Delhi. The threat came as a “fight for the dignity of our Prophet” amid the controversy over the remarks by BJP leader Ms. Nupur Sharma.
The AQIS wrote an open letter warning of the attacks. The letter dated on the 6th of June, read, “saffron terrorists should now await their end in Delhi and Bombay and in UP and Gujarat.” It further read, “They shall find refuge neither in their homes nor in their fortified army cantonments. May our mothers be bereaved of us if we do not avenge our beloved Prophet.”
The terror outfit mentioned how Ms. Nupur Sharma, a BJP leader “insulted and slandered” the Prophet and his wife in the “most vile and evil manner on an Indian TV channel.” The letter also claimed that the “hearts of Muslims all over the world are bleeding and are filled with feelings of revenge and retribution.” It further read, “We shall kill those who affront our Prophet and we shall bind explosives with our bodies and the bodies of our children to blow away the ranks of those who dare to dishonor our Prophet… [They] shall find no amnesty or clemency, no peace and security will save them and this matter will not close with any words of condemnation or sorrow.”
Meanwhile, amid the global outrage, the BJP sacked Ms. Nupur Sharma for her remarks during a news debate.
