The 38 bodies of the 39 Indians who went missing in Mosul in 2014 will be brought back to India in a special aircraft today in Amritsar. Recently External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj announced the official death of the Indians who were kidnapped by the Islamic State.
\Out of the 39 Indians, 27 were from Punjab, 6 from Bihar, 4 from Himachal Pradesh and 2 from West Bengal. However one body will not be brought back to India as the DNA test shows a 70% match while the remaining 38 bodies were a 95% match.
Minister of State for External Affairs V. K. Singh traveled to Iraq on Sunday to bring the mortal remains back to India. Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu will be at the Amritsar airport to receive the bodies.
The District Administration has advised the families to conduct the final rites within 15 to 20 minutes of the body’s arrival. The concerned District Administration Official will supervise the final rites as the coffins are to be kept closed.
