General Bipin Rawat, the Chief of Army Staff, is on a two day visit to Jammu and Kashmir.  He went to Jammu and Kashmir on the 30th of August and reviewed the operations conducted by the security forces along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir Valley.

General Bipin Rawat was accompanied by Chinar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Kanwal Jeet Singh Dhillon, who already observed the situation and reported the same to General Rawat.

This is the first visit of General Bipin Rawat to the Kashmir Valley after the Government of India (GoI) revocated Article 370, which provided a special status to Jammu and Kashmir.  General Rawat interacted with the soldiers and applauded them for their bravery and morale against the Pakistani troops. Based on an intelligence report, General Rawat alerted the Indian Army against terrorists, who are expected to infiltrate from multiple launch pads across the LoC.

General Rawat will stay at the LoC and Kashmir Valley on the 31st of August and observe the situation, after he was informed about the ceasefire violations by the Pakistan Army.  Although the GoI deployed heavy troops of soldiers to ensure peace in Jammu and Kashmir, the Union Territory recorded a total of 222 ceasefire incidents in the last 25 days.

Amit Shah, the Home Minister of India, on the 5th of August, announced the abrogation of Article 370 and proposed Jammu and Kashmir be reorganised.  According to the Reorganisation Act of Jammu and Kashmir, the State will be divided into two union territories, Ladakh and Jammu and Kashmir.

According to sources, on the 31st of August, General Bipin Rawat will visit some hinterland areas of the Kashmir Valley and is likely to meet a few victims of ceasefire violations.

According to Zee Media, Bipin Rawat will also conduct a security review meeting with the top officers of the Indian Army regarding the security situation in the Valley.

The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Army headquarters in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

Stay tuned for further updates.
