After days of speculation of joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP,) Captain Amarinder Singh, the former Chief Minister of Punjab and member of the Indian National Congress (INC,) finally announced his future plans.
On the 19th of October, Tuesday evening, Mr. Amarinder Gill said he would soon float a new political party. Speaking to the media the former CM of Punjab said, “The battle for Punjab’s future is on. Will soon announce the launch of my own political party to serve the interests of Punjab & its people, including our farmers who’ve been fighting for their survival for over a year.”
Mr. Amarinder Singh is also open to form an alliance with the BJP for the upcoming 2022 Punjab Assembly elections. However, the alliance would only happen if the ongoing farmers’ protest and issue is resolved by the BJP Government.
In a tweet, Mr. Amarinder Singh said, “I promise my people I will do what it takes to ensure its peace and security, which is today at stake.” He said, he would not sit back until he secures the future of Punjab and its people.
Last month, in September, Mr. Amarinder Singh resigned as the Chief Minister of Punjab. After resigning as the State CM, he also quit the ruling INC in Punjab.
The resignation of one of the strongest leaders of Punjab was a shock to the INC, especially when the State is preparing for the upcoming Assembly elections.
Now, the decision of Mr. Amarinder Singh to float a new political party is another major shock for the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC.)
