The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has made another arrest in the Delhi excise policy scam case. 

According to sources, the CBI arrested Mr. Abhishek Boinpally, a businessman from Hyderabad.  He was arrested after he failed to cooperate with the central agency.

It is to be noted, the CBI is investigating alleged irregularities in the framing and implementation of the excise policy in Delhi.  While Mr. Manish Sisodia is said to be the main suspect in the scam, other Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and Hyderabad based businessmen and Telangana Chief Minister Mr. K. Chandrashekar Rao were also said to have involvement in the scam, which the CBI is probing.

Moreover, the second arrest from Hyderabad came days after extensive searches and raids at various IT companies and media agencies, associated with the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) Government.  Recently, the CBI arrested Mr. Vijay Nair, the Jor Bagh based businessman were the first accused to be arrested by the agency.  After him the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Sameer Mahendru, who is an alleged associate of Nair.  With this, Mr. Abhishek Boinpally is the second arrest by the CBI and third arrest in the matter from Hyderabad.

A source close to the development also said, “He (Abhishek Boinpally)  is from Hyderabad.  He is a big businessman there.  His name cropped up during the course of the investigation.  He was called to join the investigation, but he was not cooperating in the questioning and was trying to mislead the CBI.  We had no option but to arrest him.  He was placed under arrest this morning.  He is not named in the FIR.”

The arrested accused would be produced before the Rouse Avenue Court, where the CBI would seek two weeks’ custodial remand.
